Isn't the Christmas wreath a strange flourish on a webpage citing news outlets for spreading defamation (no object) and false information?
Update: CL seems to have lost his sense of humor (?). A Christmas wreath is a symbol of festivity. It is also, if I remember my Christianity, a symbol of the birth of Christ, the savior of mankind. So to have a symbol of festivity, hope, and God's love for mankind coupled with a hate list is funny. Or, so I thought.
Merry Christmas, anyway.
Btw, am I the one in the ivory tower? I don't work there any more. . . .

Hey Emery,
The juxtaposition of the merry Christmas wreath with Bill O's venom is rather humorous -- sort of a "Let's f-- my critics and advertising competitors for Christmas!" The symbol of the wreath appearing at the time of the winter solstice is, however, a "pagan" custom and goes way back through European history and on to greco-Roman times. It is really a fertility symbol (ever green, i.e. alive, fecund). It appears at the time of the winter solstice because this is the time when many gods throughout the western tradition were born (birth as the symbol of the new beginning, i.e. the days getting longer). The Christian religion when confronted with these prior traditions, did the strategically sensible thing and just had Christ born at that same time and then incorporated those same symbols into their iconography in a process known as syncretism -- the blending of religious traditions.
Cheers,
Ivy
