Tigers Season
Just a rundown of the Tigers season so far. (I know, not what you were hoping for.) My assessment: The Indians are having a helluva season to be just half a game back in the AL Central. Because the Tigers are having a great season overall (so far). Team hitting: The Tigers are first in Runs, with 260 as of this morning, 16 more than the next two teams. They are also first in Team BA, but that's closely contested. Pitching: In terms of Team ERA, the team is 7th, at 4.34. Frankly, I found this a little surprising, although it's perfectly respectable. My guess is that Team ERA is a stat where the Tigers get better as the season goes on.
As for individual players, Magglio Ordonez is having a monster season. He has as many RBI as games played, 45, and his OPS (On-Base Percentage Plus Slugging) is a startling 1.151. He's hit 12 home runs, 120 total bases. But the player to watch is Placido Polanco . . . hitting .333, with 60 hits so far--just one less than Ordonez.
Even Sheffield is having a decent season, after a slow start (his BA is still a little on the low side, but again, that will come).
OK, I know, no one else is interested in this.

Yeah both my teams are playing well. If you're in MI between June 20 and July 20 then let's go to another game.
The Tigers are good man, way better than I thought. It turns out that Sheffield actually is valuable, and Magglio is healthy and all of the sudden they have offense. Add that to Verlander + Bonderman and you've got a solid team. They should call up Andrew Miller for good, and when they get Kenny Rogers and maybe Joel Zumaya back they'll have a pretty great team.
I still got to pick the Indians though. The Indians offense is actually the second or third best in the AL (After Yankees and maybe Sox). . .They have Sizemore and Hafner, which is just bonkers good. Their pitching isn't as good as Detroit's, but it's solid enough with those hitters, and they have a Miller of their own waiting in Buffalo, one of the top pitching prospects in the minors if they need him. I believe in the Indians this year.
Right now it looks like the Tigers and the Red Sox are the best teams in the AL, although you can't count out the Tribe. My O's are looking only to avoid yet another 4th place finish in the East, but I'd bet that, by the end of the season, the bottom caste will all revert to their normal postions: Blue Jays in 3rd, O's in 4th, D-Rays in 5th. Same as it ever was.
