The NY Times story reporting his "retirement" didn't originally mention that he is currently under investigation--for his role in illegal wiretapping, the firing of US Attorneys, and the political prosecution of AL Gov. Don Siegelman, and that the White House has claimed a dubious executive privilege to prevent his testimony before Congress--but it has now been updated with a few of those details.

Why do I suspect that the "needed more time for my family" line will once again prove to be slip cover for the real story?
