Apres moi, GIANT TSUNAMIS

So, going home for the holidays often means going to see the latest blockbuster "end of days" movie at the multiplex. For some reason, Dad loves these movies.

So, 2012. Meh. It may be the most vulgar film ever--the number of people killed off, ON SCREEN, must be in the 10's of 1000's. Never before have so many cgi-people been killed by so many cgi-tsunamis. The classic fantasy of the destruction of all things, vividly imagined. You get to see the destruction of the Sistine Chapel, the Washington Monument, and the Santa Monica Pier, among other landmarks . . . .

But not vulgar in the way that appears to count for U.S. film ratings. PG-13. Why? Well, the world may be coming to an end, but no one ever utters a swear word! No one says "well, fuck me" as their last words, looking up at a giant tsunami bearing down on them. (That's what I'd say. Or maybe I'd string some more words together.)

And no one takes off their clothes or has sex. There is nary a passionate kiss. There is a "sexy" Russian woman, and they discuss her breast enhancement (one character is a plastic surgeon), but I don't think we ever even see cleavage.

So, this is how the world ends--In a computer, without swearing and without sex.
