Tigers make playoffs

I was waiting for super-top-secret-uncover agent #3 to announce this, but apparently he's off on some mission. Anyway, it's great to see the Tigers at least clinch a Wild Card spot. Last time they made the playoffs in 1987, Reagan was prez, gas was about a buck a gallon, and a much younger blogger had just matriculated to Michigan State.

Um, I watched that MSU game. The collapse of State was, well, complete. I would like to "blame it on the rain," but the Irish played in the same downpour.

I'm saving the champagne for the AL Central Crown, which should come on Wednesday. That's my call. But even if we back in, so to speak, with the wild card, it's Marlin-esque World Series glory, behind the Magic Man, Jim Leyland. Manager of the Year, unanimous vote, get real.

But maybe we're looking DYNASTY here, folks. Young picthing staff, some talented young position players . . . ah, who am I kidding? The AL Central is the Mother of All Divisions. The reigning World Champions, the Chicago White Sox. The always dangerous Minnesota Twins. The surprisingly underperforming Indians, this year. Hell, even the Royals have to have a year, every now and then. If only the Tigers could have stayed in the AL East, which is basically . . . NYY and nobody. Would you rather play 19 games a year against the Royals or . . . the Devil Rays? I know which I'd pick, apologies to the Croc Hunter.

What I want to know, is how does a guy survive in East Lansing with a handle IUMike? I mean, the UM part sticks out like a sore thumb.

Yes, the Fartans laid another egg on Saturday. It better not spell the end of the season like the OSU loss did last year, otherwise John L. Smith is a goner.

Yeah, that AL Central is a powerhouse. Don't the Twins usually win it with a sub-.500 record?
